Hey, do you remember Toy Story 2: Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue? What do you mean no? Oh no. It came out in 1999. Oh god, I'm so old.
Well luckily for those of you who aren't old enough to drive yet, it doesn't matter how old you were when it first released because there's a brand new version of Toy Story 2: Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue.
Not an official one, however, but you'd be forgiven for thinking it was when you look at it.

In a video titled "I've spent 8 months remaking Toy Story 2 in Unreal Engine 5", YouTube and wizard Level reDesign details the painstaking process behind remaking a game from scratch.
The end result looks like it was more than worth the effort however, as what they have to show for it is nothing short of incredible. Whilst Unreal Engine 5 seems to have its issues, the engine can certainly produce a beautiful game when properly utilised.
Plus, if you're into this sort of thing, Level reDesign does a great job of explaining the entire development process. I couldn't code my way out of a wet paper bag, and I still managed to understand the entire video without the need to Google anything.
Personally it's a bit surreal seeing a game like this getting a high def upgrade. Do you ever get that weird feeling when you go back and play an old game from your childhood that the image of it looked better in your head? Well this is the inverse of that.

The whole thing makes me wonder how well a new Toy Story game would fare these days. The new films still make bank at the box office, so clearly the younger generations are just as invested now as older folks were when they were their age.
Perhaps Disney is missing a trick here. Oh well, at least we'll always have Kingdom Hearts 3.
