We may have no idea what Rockstar Games has in store beyond the release of Grand Theft Auto VI but I think a fair few of us would like it to be Red Dead Redemption 3.

Given the franchise’s immense success, it’s hard to believe that there’s not a future for Red Dead. Red Dead Redemption 2 continues to be lauded by players to this day, with many claiming the game to have the best open world out there.

I can see why. It’s so exquisitely detailed that players continue to discover new details even now.

Of course, it would be remiss not to also mention the franchise’s stellar modding community who’ve kept Red Dead Redemption 2 feeling fresh long after Rockstar Games itself stopped issuing updates.

From enormous area expansions to brand new stories, there’s a mod for just about everything you can think of.

The mod I’d like to draw your attention to today overhauls two major parts of the map, creating what feels like a brand new area.

Take a look at some of our favourite Red Dead Redemption 2 wins and fails below.

The first area transformed in the ‘Heart Plains’ mod is the Heartlands which, according to the mod’s description, “have gone through a dry spell changing the look of the region entirely from the green lush prairie into a dry grass plain.” This area is now referred to as the titular Heart Plains.

You won’t recognise Big Valley either. This “has become a sparse redwood expansion turning the dull brown mud into a rust color and adding a few sequoias amongst the forest.”

The mod’s creator, beniguess1899, adds that “there’s also the optional file of Autumn Vegetation, which recolours multiple trees mainly focusing on English oak, maple, birch and poplar. “

All in all, it’s well worth checking out if you feel like you know Red Dead Redemption 2’s map like the back of your hand. This certainly adds new points of interest.

You can download the mod from NexusMods right now, and it’s totally free to do so. Of course, you will need to be playing on PC in order to enjoy the mod.
