Do ye crave the swashbuckling fun of Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag, mixed with the delectable art style of The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker, sailor? If the answer is yes, you’ve come to the right place, my sea-faring friend.
What I’m getting at is that you can now download the wonderful Sail Forth totally for free on the Epic Games Store, and it’s a game that I highly recommend. Developed by Festive Vector, Sail Forth is a single-player adventure game that sees you sail a variety of customisable ships across an ocean that holds important keys to unlocking your past. On your travels, you’ll befriend fishfolk, acquire a crew, and defend yourself from pirates, all whilst trying to discover who it is that you really are.
Take a look at Sail Forth in action below.
There are “dozens” of regions to explore, each boasting its own unique foes, allies, flora, and fauna, making for a journey that feels expansive and ever-changing. Devs also make the point that Sail Forth can be whatever you want it to be, writing, “Playfully pursue a pod of curious dolphins, admire the beauty of the sun sinking into an icy horizon, or run down a clutch of cowardly criminals only to accept their apologies to the tune of wild cannonry.”

Ships can be customised to whatever suits your tastes, from small sailboats to large man-of-wars, with various modifications and armaments available to help you fend off those pesky enemies. The more treasure you acquire too, the better your crew will be treated and rewarded. I should add that the weather will constantly change, providing for a variety of challenging conditions.
Sail Forth is completely free from now until 18 January at 4pm GMT. At that point, Fred Wood’s LOVE will become available instead. Go grab Sail Forth while you can.
