Some believe that Super Mario 64 is the greatest 3D platformer of all time and to be honest, it’s hard to argue against that because, at the very least, it’s certainly up there.
When Super Mario 64 was released for the Nintendo 64 in 1996 (1997 for Europe), it quite literally changed the game for the platform genre. While not the first platform game to dip its toes in the 3D market, Super Mario 64 certainly played a huge part in revolutionising the genre with its impact still being seen today in games such as Astro Bot.

“Invited to Princess Peach's castle, Mario discovers that she has once again been kidnapped by Bowser and his minions. However, something has changed... This time the adventure is in 3D,” reads the description of Super Mario 64.

“Leaping through pictures hanging from the walls, Mario searches for 120 Power Stars stashed away in vast, magical worlds teeming with daunting obstacle courses, hidden items, puzzles and an army of enemies!”
You can play a recent version of Super Mario 64 in Super Mario 3D All-Stars or if you subscribe to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion, you can play it via the classics library. However, a fan has decided to remake the beloved 3D platformer and it’s looking impressive so far.
The fan-made remake is being created by the host of the YouTube channel, ‘Super Mario 64: Rerendered’ and even though no development videos have been uploaded for a while, the potential is there to see.

The remake is still in development and likely some way off until we see Mario bouncing on mushroom heads, but we can’t wait to see it if that day comes. Yet, if the remake becomes playable, it’s unlikely to be made public, to avoid the wrath of the Nintendo lawyers.
