Pokémon fans stunned by Unreal Engine 5 Emerald remake

Pokémon fans stunned by Unreal Engine 5 Emerald remake

This looks incredible

Pokémon fans have been stunned by an impressive fan-made Unreal Engine 5 remake of Pokémon Emerald.

The Pokémon video game series made its debut back in 1996 on the original Nintendo Game Boy and despite releasing countless sequels (sometimes two in the same year), this beloved series remains as popular as ever.

Check out the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet trailer below!

The most recent games in the series are Pokémon Scarlet and Violet which simultaneously launched in 2022, the same year as Pokémon Legends: Arceus. That year, Pokémon even outdid itself by releasing three mainline games instead of the typical two.

In our review of Pokémon Scarlet, we said that the game “finally delivered on the promise of an open-world entry, but with all the technical issues and stripped-back features, it’s hard to not feel like the Nintendo Switch held these games back.”

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet were decent enough games, as long as you can ignore some of the launch bugs and underwhelming visuals. So, letting actions speak louder than words, the YouTuber and indie developer, ArcSin Jesse has taken matters into his own hands.

In just five weeks, by using Unreal Engine 5, he made his very own Pokémon remake and judging by the developer diary uploaded to his YouTube channel, it’s mightily impressive, to say the least. Just imagine what he could do as part of a team in a typical AAA development cycle.

The next game to arrive in the Pokémon series is Pokémon Legends: Z-A which is currently scheduled to be released for the Nintendo Switch sometime in 2025. Hopefully, Nintendo will drop a solid release date in the coming months as well as whether it will be released on the Switch 2.

We’ll keep you posted when we hear release date news on Pokémon Legends: Z-A and the launch of the Nintendo Switch successor.
