The most popular Pokémon in the series actually isn’t Pikachu, a huge day for those who think the yellow mouse Pokémon is overrated.

There are currently over 1,000 Pokémon across every game, an insane number to say we started with just 150 all those years ago.

It remains to be seen if Pokémon Legends: Z-A will introduce any new creatures to the roster, check out the trailer below

With that many to choose from, it makes you wonder how anyone can choose a favourite but I think we can all agree there’s always one little critter that stands out from the rest, with my personal favourite being Piplup.

That said YouTuber Thomas Game Docs did a survey with over 1.6 million votes to determine who the most and least popular Pokémon are, and the answers will probably surprise you.

The least favourite was Rellor, a Pokémon I actually had to Google because I’d omitted it from memory. It’s the dung-beetle Pokémon introduced in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, very dull and easily forgettable though I’m sure they’re a favourite for one person out there so, sorry.

The most popular Pokémon though is apparently Umbreon, the eeveelution that requires the player to increase their partner’s happiness and have it evolve during the evening.

They’re a cool Pokémon for sure but I’d never have guessed they were so popular, especially compared to other eeveelutions.

If you’re wondering where Pikachu ranked on this list, being the poster-boy of the series and everything, you might be surprised to hear he ranked 65th on the list but to be fair his appeal has dwindled over the years with how much the franchise relies on him.

Of course this list is entirely subjective, your favourite Pokémon is your favourite Pokémon and nothing is going to change that.
