Pokémon Legends Z-A starters shown in new teaser

Which one would you pick?

We may have just got a first look at the starters for Pokémon Legends Z-A, thanks to a new teaser.

Starters are an important aspect of the Pokémon games. Not only do they affect how you play the first section of each game, but they also become key talking points among fans.

After all, we’ve all had those coffee table debates: “Squirtle, Bulbasaur, or Charmander?” It's important to make sure you pick the right one!

Let's recap that official announcement trailer for Pokémon Legends Z-A again, shall we?

Now, it appears we may have had a first look at the starters which’ll be decking out Pokémon Legends Z-A’s opening roster.

New artwork made for the upcoming 2025 Pokémon World Championships, set to take place in August, features several iconic Pokémon like Pikachu, Meowth, and Toedscool.

However, Chespin, Fennekin, and Froakie are also placed front and centre in the image, leading fans to believe they may be the starters for the upcoming Pokémon Legends Z-A.

Check out the artwork in the teaser below.

Chespin, Fennekin, and Froakie were the starters for Gen 6, beginning with Pokémon X and Pokémon Y for the Nintendo 3DS.

For the unaware: Chespin is a Grass-type that can evolve into Quilladin, Fennekin is a Fire-type who evolves into Braixen, and Froakie is a Water-type who evolves into Frogadier.

Other evidence to back this up includes the fact that Z-A will be set in the Kalos region, which is also where X and Y took place. So, there’s a strong chance this could be the case.

This doesn’t necessarily mean it will be true though, as the trio’s placement in the art could just be a symbol to represent the Kalos region, and Z-A, as a whole. As always, we recommend taking these rumours with a pinch of salt.

It’s also worth noting that Z-A’s predecessor, Pokémon Legends Arceus, did not follow this pattern. So, there’s no precedence either.

There isn’t much else to go on for the time being, but an upcoming Pokémon Presents is taking place this Thursday, 27 February, which should put this speculation to rest. Hopefully we get a release date for the game too.
