One of the biggest concerns facing American gamers with the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2, or really any new technology, is the Trump administration's changes to the country’s tariffs.
Earlier in the year, the U.S. applied an increased tariff cost to all products imported from China and Mexico, two countries who provide tech to consumers, with Nintendo’s consoles coming from China.
The Nintendo Switch 2 will release this year, but no price has been announced yet
There was a fear that the new tariff would increase the price of the highly anticipated console.

However, Nintendo president, Shuntaro Furukawa, has spoken on the situation to Reuters (translated by Nintendo Everything) and it seems the company has a potential solution.
Furukawa noted that the company is “predicting various geopolitical risks and establishing ways to respond.”
The president commented that “Nintendo Switch is not only manufactured in China, but in places such as Vietnam and Cambodia as well.”
This situation has brought together the leading publishers of the industry as Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft penned a letter to the U.S. government warning that increased tariffs would impact American consumers.

Tariffs wouldn’t impact the current fiscal year, but will come into effect over the following years. Furukawa went on to say, “While we anticipate a certain impact, the influence on this year’s financial results is expected to be minimal.”
Hopefully, this allows gamers to breathe a sigh of relief, as it seems Nintendo, as well as other tech giants, have contingencies in place to mitigate any impact on players wanting the latest consoles.
This is a developing story, so things could change as the Trump administration further expands their plans.
Of course, we don’t even know the official pricing of the Nintendo Switch 2, though we should be finding out on 2 April during the Nintendo Direct, which will properly discuss the hardware and release date.
