Nintendo certainly is keeping us waiting.
You may recall that it was back in May that the company first teased the existence of a successor to the Nintendo Switch.
“This is Furukawa, President of Nintendo. We will make an announcement about the successor to Nintendo Switch within this fiscal year,” a tweet read.

“It will have been over nine years since we announced the existence of Nintendo Switch back in March 2015.”
That fiscal year ends in April 2025, so we’re rapidly approaching the deadline set by Shuntaro Furukawa and yet, there’s no sign of the console.
A Nintendo alarm clock? Yes. A Nintendo music app? Yes.
But a Nintendo Switch successor remains a coveted treasure.

The main consolation I can offer is that, as I said, we’re on the final countdown with the announcement certain to drop within the next four to five months.
In the meantime, Furukawa has offered a brief update.
Pokémon Legends Z-A is due to launch next year, and is rumoured to be a launch title on the Nintendo Switch’s successor.
Furukawa appeared during an online press conference earlier today which followed the publication of the latest earnings results from Nintendo.

As reported by VGC, Furukawa once again reiterated, “We will make an announcement about the successor to Nintendo Switch within this fiscal year.”
It’s not a statement that exactly gives us anything else to go on, but it’s nice to hear that plans haven't been delayed I suppose.
Insiders are adamant that the Nintendo Switch 2 - which remains unnamed, to be clear - is set to launch in spring of 2025.
I’d urge you to take such whispers with a pinch of salt but if this is true, the console would need to be announced sooner rather than later to allow for pre-order time.

The last major Nintendo Direct was held in June so five months on, we are perhaps due one.
There was, of course, the Indie World and Partner event in August, but I’m talking about first party announcements.
To compare, 2023 brought us three major first party Directs, whilst 2024 has only had one to date.
