The Nintendo Switch 2 could bring back a popular feature from the previous console, if reports are to be believed.
We’re still a little ways out from hearing more about the Nintendo Switch 2. After its initial reveal in January, details on the console are still a little light. Most information we currently have is still based on reports, rumours, and hearsay.
That’s why we need to stress that you take everything you don’t hear coming from Nintendo directly with a pinch of salt.

The Nintendo Switch 2 will be one of the biggest releases of the year. Are you excited?
According to a new filing from the FCC, it’s alleged that near field communication (NFC) will be a feature of the Switch 2.
For the unaware, NFC is a feature that allows your Amiibo to interface with your console. The NFC reader will scan your Amiibo, giving you various benefits depending on the game.

Most first-party Nintendo games utilise Amiibo in some way, including The Legend of Zelda, Metroid, Animal Crossing, Splatoon, and Super Mario.
Scanning one usually gives you an in-game item related to the Amiibo you’ve just scanned, but it can also transfer data between games and platforms.
They’ve been around since 2014, when Nintendo launched the first lineup as features for the Wii U and 3DS.
Considering how popular Amiibo sales are, it’s pretty obvious that Nintendo would look at bringing back NFC to the Switch 2. All those figures sitting on your shelf won’t be gathering dust!

As for Switch 2 news, we won’t know any more official details about the console until 2nd April, which is the date of the next Nintendo Direct. This stream will be entirely dedicated to the console, as well as revealing some games that will be on the system.
So far, we only know of a new Mario Kart as one of the games confirmed to be on Switch 2. It’s kind of a no-brainer, considering how well Mario Kart 8 Deluxe sold previously.
Until then, we’ll wait for official confirmation if the Nintendo Switch 2 will have NFC features.
