Nintendo Switch 2 detail emerges during major leak

Nintendo Switch 2 detail emerges during major leak

The Nintendo Switch 2 is coming

Details on the Nintendo Switch 2 have been leaked through Pokémon of all things, giving us details on the console’s development.

The next Nintendo console has been shrouded in secrecy for quite some time now. We know it exists and some have even touched it, but the closest we’ve gotten to an official reveal of the console has been the recent Pokémon leaks.

Part of the leaks covered the next Pokémon game, Pokémon Legends: Z-A.

Pokémon developer Game Freak recently suffered a catastrophic data leak spanning multiple games, with some of the information coming to light being really, really weird.

The leak has also been really useful in determining the codename of the Nintendo Switch 2, which has been speculated to death and finally been confirmed.

When looking at the leaked details for Pokémon Legends: Z-A, it’s said the upcoming game is being developed for Ounce, which is indeed the codename for the Nintendo Switch 2.

It’s not the most exciting discovery but it does confirm that the next Nintendo console will release next year, as the next Pokémon game will also release next year at an undisclosed time.

Other Nintendo 2025 releases include Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, which will probably be a launch title for the Nintendo Switch 2.

As for what the new console will be like, designs leaked earlier this year that seem to picture the new console as exactly the same as the previous model, though a bit bigger and obviously more powerful.

While some fans are expecting a more substantial change, I don’t know what anyone else would expect from something presumably called the Nintendo Switch 2.

Other leaks and rumours state the next console will be backwards compatible with the current Nintendo Switch library, and there’s even a belief that games like The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom will receive enhanced ports.

Take this with a grain of salt, of course, but it sounds like the next generation of Nintendo consoles is going to be a big upgrade.
