Nintendo just announced that the successor to the Nintendo Switch will feature backward compatibility and support Nintendo Switch Online.
While this doesn’t come as much of a shock, it’s nice to get an official statement about the games we already own.

However, in typical Nintendo fashion, this news was dropped seemingly randomly, as if nothing else important was happening in the world.

The news dropped on Twitter while the world watched the American election from the edge of their seats.
Of course, this timing was absolutely roasted by fans.
In one tweet, a user compared the announcement to that one friend who interrupts everyone else to tell a story, and it does feel a bit like that - someone desperate for attention, but of course, it’s all jokes, this is superb news.
However, it was just business as usual for Nintendo as when the news came it was early Wednesday morning for the Japanese company.

A perfectly acceptable time to drop a nugget of joy from the company who seems to just roll out of bed and deliver great news.
Another Twitter user joked, “Biggest news tonight.”
This was echoed many times just as this Twitter user expressed, “I'm glad that's the only interesting news tonight and not anything groundbreaking.”
Of course, the drama of the America election was eased somewhat by Nintendo’s random lore drops and it gave fans something to look forward to.

The news is very welcome to all as we all look forward to another stellar console from the gaming giant.
Being able to play all our Switch games on the successor all but guarantees its success and perhaps hints at 4K upgrades for older titles.
I look forward to playing the Super Mario Odyssey on my Switch 2 as the world burns down around my ears.
