Within the next fiscal year, Nintendo will finally unveil its new console.
We’re in the dark as to exactly what this console will be called but, to state the obvious, it will be a successor to the Nintendo Switch.
The Nintendo Switch still holds up exceptionally well for a seven-year-old device but that’s not to say that it won’t be nice to see it revised with a few new bells and whistles, particularly when it comes to the console’s framerate.

According to Nintendo’s president, Shuntaro Furukawa, the console won’t feature in the company’s next Nintendo Direct.
“This is Furukawa, President of Nintendo. We will make an announcement about the successor to Nintendo Switch within this fiscal year,” he began in a message posted on social media.
“It will have been over nine years since we announced the existence of Nintendo Switch back in March 2015. We will be holding a Nintendo Direct this June regarding the Nintendo Switch software lineup for the latter half of 2024, but please be aware that there will be no mention of the Nintendo Switch successor during that presentation.”
The exact date of that June Direct event remains unknown but as Furukawa emphasised, it’ll focus on titles still to come in 2024.

When the Nintendo Switch’s successor is finally unveiled, that particular Direct will likely feature the console’s launch line-up.
Pokémon Legends Z-A is set to land in 2025.
What are you hoping to see from the Nintendo Switch 2?

It already sounds like Pokémon Legends Z-A is one of the console’s launch titles - and if this latest rumour is anything to go by, it could be joined by a new Zelda title.
This isn’t exactly a complete revelation. The Legend of Zelda is a timeless franchise - it was hardly going to go anywhere anytime soon.
Even still, the prospect of a new instalment is always exciting, especially when that instalment will likely debut the franchise’s next iteration of Hyrule following the apparent duology that is Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom.
According to leaker Midori, an often reliable source when it comes to Nintendo, the next instalment in the series is codenamed Edward.

“There is a project at Nintendo with the codename Edward. This might be related to the rumours of a new Zelda series title,” they wrote.
Admittedly, that doesn’t reveal much at all. Midori has previously expressed that they’re under the impression that Nintendo is sitting on a Twilight Princess remaster.
Edward … Twilight … Could the codename be a tongue-in-cheek pop culture reference?
After all, Midori did add, “There is also a project at Nintendo in development with the codename Anna. Elsa is the codename for Nintendo Switch Sports, so this title might be related,” seemingly a reference to Frozen.

Coincidence? Or are Nintendo’s developers having fun with their codenames? Only time will tell I’m afraid.
