Normally, anything Legend of Zelda goes down a treat with fans, but these free downloads have been heavily criticised instead.
There’s a couple of weeks to go yet, but come the end of September we will have a new Legend of Zelda adventure to get lost in.
Any new title from the beloved franchise is a cause for celebration, but this one feels especially special because we finally get to play as Princess Zelda.

Princess Zelda is ready for The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, are you?
This “masterful quest” is shaping up to become a staple favourite of the fandom.

Currently, Legend of Zelda fans have until 7 October to claim these five Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX icons.
Granted, five isn’t a massive number, but Nintendo has been known to drop small icon batches before.
But it isn’t the number of icons available that’s irked players so much, it’s the design of said images.
One Twitter user remarked, “So f**kin ugly lmao.”
Although it’s by far the harshest comments towards the aesthetic of the downloads, there are many other users who aren’t impressed by Nintendo’s IP choice for these freebies either.

“This is disappointing; after last month I was hoping for Donkey Kong Country 2,” commented @Tangocow.
In comparison to the reaction other free Nintendo Switch downloads have received, the general consensus is that this offer is underwhelming.
Even the “GREAT” that someone tweeted feels like a joke rather than a genuine appreciation of gratitude.
Like them or not though, these Legend of Zelda goodies are here to stay until early October.

If they really don’t tickle your fancy, this stunning PC port of Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will definitely grab your attention. It’s so beautiful we could cry.
That's better than crying over free downloads you don’t like, right? Right?
