With another game on the way, Mass Effect fans have wondered which ending, if any, for Mass Effect 3 is the true one, and now we have our answer.

Mass Effect games are all about the choices you make, which is probably why it quickly became one of the most popular sci-fi game series of all time.

Check out the teaser for the next Mass Effect game below, which unfortunately is all that’s been shared so far

However Mass Effect 3 had a lot of endings, and many disagreed on which one was the best to choose.

Fortunately Mike Gamble, producer of the next Mass Effect game took to Twitter back in 2015 to confirm “there is no canon ending to Mass Effect 3,” so to try to work out which one is the best would be a pointless exercise anyway.

Gamble went on to say “player choice is something we take very seriously” so of course having a canon ending would defeat the point of that choice.

Despite this many have wondered if the next Mass Effect game, which takes place after Mass Effect 3, will go back on this decision and finally create a true ending, though this doesn’t seem to be the case.

In an interview with GamesRadar to discuss Dragon Age: The Veilguard, it was said BioWare "never wants to invalidate" player decisions, and always aims to be "respectful of the choice you made."

While this was said in relation to the Dragon Age games it’s not a stretch to assume it applies for Mass Effect as well.

Of course there’ll likely be plenty of references and allusions to the previous games, maybe even some returning faces if we’re lucky, but players can be confident that whatever decision they made to end the first trilogy, the next game shouldn’t invalidate it.
