GTA VI fans are worried the game will be littered with microtransactions after it was revealed how much income they generate.
While the singleplayer for Grand Theft Auto V blew everybody away nine years ago, it was the multiplayer component, Grand Theft Auto Online, that made everybody stay. So far, the game has sold over 180 million copies, and made Rockstar Games a lot of money in that time.

GTA Online has received several massive updates over the years, including new modes, new heists, and the topic of today’s discussion, more in-game purchases. Gun, vehicles, apartments, bases and more all cost players a massive chunk of in-game cash, and while you could earn your ill-gotten gains through gameplay alone, it can take a while.

That’s where the microtransactions came in, allowing players to drop some real-world cash for fake-world cash, and afford those fake, rendered luxuries.
Now, as players look forward to the release of Grand Theft Auto VI, many are wondering what the next interaction of GTA Online will look like, and the recent earnings of two Take-Two Interactive executives suggest there’ll be many more in-game purchases shoved in our faces.
YouTuber LegacyKillaHD sparked a conversation on the topic on Twitter, when they reacted to the news that the top two Take-Interactive execs earned a combined total of $72,350,718 from this year alone, with GTA’s microtransactions reportedly being a heavy contributor to the sum.
Fans quickly added their own takes to the argument, many of which are already anticipating an avalanche of in-game purchases and time-savers.

“Online will be borderline unplayable without spending money I can feel that”
“Wouldn't be surprised if they're in the story of GTA VI as well.”
“If we want to end microtransactions in gaming we'll need to get through to the normies who aren't hardcore gamers and explain the predatory nature of the practice and how it feeds the same receptors as a gambling addiction.”
In other words, it'll unfortunately never happen.”

Given how long GTA V has survived off content updates and microtransactions, it’s an inevitability that they’ll creep into GTA VI. That being said, it’ll more than likely be a similar story to what we’ve seen in GTA Online, you can pay for in-game money if you don’t want to spend time grinding missions and heists, but can still access everything in the game on your own if you choose.
