A free-to-play Harry Potter RPG apparently has a better story than Hogwarts Legacy, who’d have thought?
Say what you will about Hogwarts Legacy, but you can’t deny it’s been a phenomenal success for Warner Bros Games. It was officially 2023’s best-selling game across all platforms, and even found its way into the top three best-sellers on Steam.

With fans on PC, Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch, it’s clear to see why the company behind it is keen to get a sequel out the door as soon as possible, and it’s been teasing exactly that while celebrating the game’s success.

While the modding community have done a stellar job in keeping the game alive with new gameplay additions and enhancements, one thing they can’t fix is the story, often seen as one of the weaker parts of the game. While it’s not exactly bad it doesn’t live up to the Harry Potter tales it’s based on, and despite being packed with references and new lore it wouldn’t win many awards for its narrative alone. Its success comes from it being a Harry Potter game, not a gripping story or compelling characters.
However, something many won’t have seen coming is some fans saying Harry Potter: Magic Awakened, a mobile card game, has a better story than Hogwarts Legacy.
This hot-take was shared on Reddit by Mark_297, who said Harry Potter: Magic Awakened “better character development than Hogwarts Legacy,” as well as better overall storyline, despite a few “cringe” moments.
Admittedly a mobile game having a better story than a high-budget RPG is a tough pill to swallow, but I suppose everybody is entitled to their opinion.

Hopefully Hogwarts Legacy 2 improves on the story of its predecessor, hopefully with some branching paths for good and dark wizards in addition to actual consequences for the choices you make along the way.
