It’s no secret that the first Fallout games haven’t aged very well, and the series really came into its own when it moved to 3D with Fallout 3.
However if you’re nostalgic for days gone by or just fancy seeing what they were like with a few modern adjustments I know just the mod for you.

It’s worth noting first that you can just play the original Fallout games on PC, as they’re available on Steam, but like I said earlier they haven’t aged well especially if you joined the series from Fallout 3 onwards.

If Bethesda ever wanted to revisit that classic RPG format though they should absolutely partner up with Larian Studios, as a Fallout in the style of Baldur’s Gate 3 would slap.
Back to the mod though, Fallout: Awakens is a quick and simple mod for Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel, another game you can play on PC right now.
It’s essentially an expansion mod that tries to bring Fallout Tactics more in-line with the isometric RPG titles, and it honestly does a pretty decent job of it.
You can revisit some of the iconic locations of the first two games, and experience a new story set long after the original.

Keep in mind these were very different games back then, and while they share similar DNA they’re going to feel like a whole new IP if you’ve only ever played games like Fallout 4 or Fallout 76.
It’s also a little rough around the edges, with some users who’ve downloaded the mod complaining about the amount of random encounters the mod throws at the player.
Nevertheless if you’re feeling nostalgic and want to experience Bethesda’s beloved RPG series as it once was, this is the mod for you, as god knows we’re not getting Fallout 5 anytime soon.
