Diablo IV’s first season hasn’t even finished yet and we’re already getting an announcement about the next. The news came courtesy of Gamescom 2023's ONL, with Season of Blood promising lots of blood (obviously), vampires, and community requested improvements.
Blizzard isn’t exactly a popular publisher at this moment in time, mainly because of the absolute fiasco that Overwatch 2 has turned into. Do we have to remind people that the game is currently ranked as one of the worst Steam games ever? We didn’t think so. With that in mind, when the trailer for the new season started to play, many gamers sat quietly wondering if they needed to be annoyed or happy. Most D4 fans finished that trailer with a smile on their faces, which is always a win for Blizzard in this climate.
Sink your fangs into the Season of Blood trailer.
It wasn’t long ago that players were review bombing the game after some seriously questionable updates, updates which have now been rectified by the latest patch. With yet another controversy put to rest, at least for now, Diablo IV can be about the story and its attractive demons, rather than poor decisions.

Beginning on 17 October, Season of Blood will witness your character having to fight off hordes of vampires that are storming Sanctuary. Fortunately, you won’t be alone, as vampire hunter Erys will be joining you, voiced by actress Gemma Chan. That, as well as some nifty vampire powers, will stand you in good stead to face the five Diablo endgame bosses ready to tear you limb from limb.
Although the bloodbath of vampiric battle always wins over crowds, it’s actually the in-game quality of life changes that are really attracting attention, most notably that you can now carry over Skill Points, Potion Charges, Paragon Points, etc to the next season. Though, as with so many things, you need to make sure you do a very specific action first; in D4, you need to have achieved those items with a previous Seasonal Realm Character or an Eternal.
What Blizzard shared is “just a slice of what’s in store”, so if you want to know what else Season of Blood holds for you bloodthirsty hunters, make sure to put 17 October into your diaries.
