With each new console generation comes the opportunity to resurrect or revitalise long-forgotten franchises, whether it be through re-releases, remakes or remasters.

This year has been dominated by past games coming back with a fresh coat of paint, with earlier in the year being the perfect example, as Metacritic’s best-rated games list mostly comprised itself of remakes/remasters.

With so much potential on what series could be brought back next, fans have gone wild demanding some of their favourite titles to be considered for modern platforms, one of which being the Def Jam series, which is currently part of a petition that’s raised over 10k signatures.

The petition was started by RAH GAMING, who wants Def Jam World War released on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, stating “EA Games the world needs this.”

In case you weren’t aware, Def Jam is a series where real-life rappers and singers go toe-to-toe in arenas, meaning you can watch the likes of Snoop Dogg, Ice-T, Busta Rhymes and more beat each other up in entertaining bouts.

Standout features include using the game’s environment to get the drop on your opponent, as well as the general silliness of seeing your favourite rappers punch each other in the face and unleash wild combos on each other.

The series hasn’t had a new game in years, though fans are desperate to see it return, either through a new entry or a re-release or remake of some of the older titles.

The ball is now in EA’s court to decide if it’s worth revisiting, though if fan demand is loud enough, there’s every chance the Def Jam series could return in one way or another.
