Cyberpunk 2077 sequel tease isn't entirely what we were hoping to see

That’s it. CD Projekt Red is done with Cyberpunk 2077. It’s gutting news to know that the story we’ve been following for so long has reached its epic conclusion, and just when it really hit its stride.

Of course, it’s not all doom and gloom, as there is a sequel on the way. However, knowing that no more content will be added to Cyberpunk 2077 isn’t exactly the sequel update we wanted.

According to the game’s director, Gabe Amatangelo, “We're done. It's possible that there's some other little thing that comes in here or there, just because, as you’re kind of messing around with stuff, sometimes you discover something that is not a high risk.” Gabe continues, “Or it's easy to integrate. Or, you know, some developers have some bandwidth.”

But despite the odd tweak here or there, it is over, my friends.

Gamers knew this day would eventually come, especially as CD Projekt Red moves onto The Witcher 4. However, it still stings. Even more so because of the fast improvements made to a game that originally bombed so hard it seemed like it would never bounce back.

Having clawed it back after that agonising launch, the devs are confident that they’ve learnt from their Cyberpunk 2077 mistakes, and thus the sequel will be a lot more polished upon release. We’re relieved, naturally.

But that relief is tinged with sadness; not because we want a buggy game, but because we still pine for the world the original Cyberpunk 2077 created. The devs have already added so many expansions and updates, yet there still feels like more potential is waiting to be unlocked.

Most likely, that potential will be realised in the sequel. A sequel which is years away from launching, as all eyes are now fixed on Geralt’s possible return.
