Believe me when I say that writing this hurts me more than you having to read it: fans are complaining about Baldur’s Gate 3’s “disastrous” final act and we’re freaking out a bit.
Everyone is fully aware just how much BG3 has taken the video gaming world by storm – PC gamers have been obsessively playing it, while PlayStation 5 players have looked on longingly, waiting for when it launches for them. It’s been so well-received that it beat Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom as the best rated game of 2023. But it looks like a spanner has wedged itself into the cogs, in the form of a very buggy Act 3.

“Game is amazing but Act 3 is a disaster”. That’s the title of the thread that’s appeared in the BG3 subreddit, and while I’d hoped it was just a singular opinion, many other gamers are in agreement. User Grim_Reach hammered the final nails in the coffin by saying, “Act 3 feels like early access, it's really disappointing. Several of the quests are bugged, and it just lacks the polish of Acts 1 & 2. Plus the performance is terrible. It is such a massive step down in quality from Acts 1 & 2 that I honestly feel like it needed more time in the oven.”

As I’ve not personally played the game yet (I’m waiting for the PS5 release), I can’t confirm whether this is just a case of extremely nitpicky fans or the general consensus. Still, while all games are subjective and thus invoke different responses from different people, there are many folks in this thread who are disappointed.
However, while these players lament over what could have been an epic conclusion to one of the most beloved games of 2023 thus far, there are some who are blaming the OP’s in-game choices. “Yeah, it seems like all of your issues are just related to how you played. I've not got one of these issues doing most of the quests multiple ways. Your iron throne issue is one that probably came from decisions you made prior to going there.” Brutal, but some fair points are made. Though they’re not points that the OP believes justify so many bugs at the latter end of the game.
Larian Studios has already launched its first patch, which is chocked full of fixes, but those fixes focus heavily on the first two Acts of the game. Consequently, Act 3 is still cursed with the ability to dethrone this popular game, unless Larian Studios quickly address the problems before the news of BG3’s buggy finale overtakes all the positives about the RPG. Though, let’s be totally honest here, Larian have already put so much effort into addressing bugs elsewhere that it’ll likely tackle Act 3 as soon as it’s able.
For those looking to play Baldur’s Gate 3, it’s out on PC now and will be coming to PlayStation on 6 September. The game has now been confirmed for Xbox, but no specific date has been given yet.
