Assassin's Creed fans desperate for a 'stupidly big' Roman Empire game

How often do you think about the Roman Empire?

We’ve seen many cultures thanks to the wonders of Assassin’s Creed, history seemingly laid bare so we can galavant around as a suave assassin. Yet, for some AC fans, what’s gone before simply isn’t enough, with a small group of gamers eager to see a “stupidly big” Roman Empire setting.

This “dream” had been shared on Reddit, where several other fans admitted that they share the same hope that Ubisoft will allow one of its assassins to delve deep into the “entire” Roman Empire. Oh yes, they don’t just want a snippet of this part of history, they want to see every single explicit detail.

Check out how stunning Assassin's Creed Red looks in this reveal trailer!

“Ever since I first played Origins, and especially after playing Odyssey, I've always thought about how cool it would be to have an AC game set in the Roman Empire, the entire Roman Empire from,” posted vg_vassilev.

“They [Ubisoft] already have Greece, Egypt and England ready, and have experience with Italy and France. Slap on the other 1/4 of Europe, part of the Middle East and North Africa, and there you go.”

Sound logic there, we can’t deny. However, as another fan pointed out, such a game would be wildly ambitious size-wise. “I do think that is pushing too much. Ubisoft already struggles to fill the current ones [maps], so making it bigger seems ill-advised.” They added, “The alternative would be a map that starts way smaller than your example but gets multiple expansions along the years, filling the empire piece by piece.”

Ah, the good ol’ fashion milking a game for all it’s worth. Still, it’s a solid compromise that would see a dream become a reality, just slowly over many months, maybe even years, instead of all at once. We’d be up for an AC title that delivers that much – we’d certainly get our money’s worth.

But with Ubisoft working on a Hogwarts Legacy-style RPG, the hopes of seeing an assassin running around the Roman Empire are greatly reduced. Besides, the publisher also has several codename projects underway, like AC Hexe, to focus on.
