Ubisoft made it clear prior to the game’s release that the latest entry would take notes from the OG Assassin’s Creed games, rather than the mixed-review RPG titles like Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.

The new game boasts a mercifully smaller map, a greater focus on stealth, a story that actually follows the Order of Assassins and much more, and fans are loving it.
Reddit user chrysantheknight shared their take on the game, saying: “Mirage feels like the first proper AC game since Syndicate. No hate to the RPG games, everyone has their thing, but I truly feel that the series was at its best until Syndicate. I feel like I'm playing an assassin again, the city design is amazing, and so are the stealth aspects of the game.
“Sure there are issues like the combat and parkour itself being clunky at times, as well as the facial animation during cutscenes and the boring story, but I don't really mind it all that much because the rest makes up for it.”
Fans were in agreement, saying the return to the roots of the series makes it one of the best Assassin’s Creed games in recent memory.

“Totally agree, it’s the most fun I’ve had with this series since Origins and many of the stealth challenges remind me of some of the best parts of AC2.”
“I feel like this is the game we should’ve gotten after origins”
“Honestly same. As much as origins was still creepy, there's a certain FEEL you get running around Paris, London, Italy, the Caribbean, and now Baghdad … In no case were the others bad but 100% can agree this FEELS like the older games”
If future titles follow a similar formula to Mirage, Assassin’s Creed fans could be in for a proper revival of what turned the series into Ubisoft’s flagship IP.
