Peter Griffin's Fortnite death animation is the hurt knee meme: bravo, devs

Peter Griffin is officially in Fortnite and his death animation is the iconic Family Guy hurt knee meme.

I’m going to admit something. I’m quite relieved that Fortnite OG is over and done with. Already, Chapter 5 Season 1: Underground is proving to be a major upgrade.

Fortnite OG was a season that thrived off nostalgia. Without that nostalgia, there were some glaring issues. The map was a visual downgrade, it was hard to navigate in Zero Build, plus it empty without familiar mechanics like Job Boards and Loot Island. Thankfully, all we’ve come to know and love is back in the latest season, Underground. Last night, I was quite literally beaming with joy as I teamed up with pals to hunt bounties, take down NPC bosses, and secure Forecast Towers, all whilst trying to win of course. Fortnite is thriving once again - and it just so happens that Family Guy’s Peter Griffin has become the star of the show.

Take a look at the trailer for Fortnite Chapter 5, Season 1: Underground below.

Peter Griffin, or should I say buff Peter Griffin is a part of this season’s Battle Pass, but he’s also located as an NPC boss fight on the island in Snooty Steppes. If you succeed in killing him, you’ll obtain Peter Griffin’s Hammer Pump Shotgun (Mythic) and Peter Griffin’s Medallion but it’s his death animation that I want to draw attention to.

After killing Peter, instead of immediately disappearing into oblivion like players and NPCs typically do when they die, Peter will fall to the ground and recreate the iconic hurt knee meme. It’s very amusing and has immediately proved a hit with fans. “OMG lol. That’s gold,” commented one, while another added, “That’s the best thing in this update.” Bravo devs, bravo.

I want to circle back to the Medallion I mentioned, a new mechanic introduced this season. If you hold a Medallion, it works like an ever-present version of Slurp Juice that affects shields only. Once it’s in your position, your shield will constantly regenerate but your position will become visible on the map - shown by an orange circle. If you stack Medallions, the smaller and more specific the circle gets, alerting enemy players to your position.

Overpowered or a genius addition? I think the jury’s still out on that one. On the whole though, what a season this is shaping up to be.
