Bad news - while a new Fable game is indeed in development, it sounds like we still have a long time to wait before its release.
The Fable reboot was first announced back in 2020, and that’s pretty much the last time we heard about it. Officially, that is - fans haven’t stopped talking about it and asking when it’s going to release, which, of course, is a very good question.
Take a look at the teaser trailer for Fable below.
Late last year, one insider claimed that Fable was experiencing “developmental problems”, which doesn’t bode too well. That was after developer Eidos Montreal was brought into the project to assist Playground Games in bringing the beloved series back to life.

Despite that, the head of Xbox Game Studios, Matt Booty, recently teased that some of the things he’s seen of the game are “so encouraging”, and said that, “There’s stuff that I wish I could share and show.” Unfortunately, it doesn’t sound like he’ll be showing anything for some time yet.
As TheGamer reports, speaking on the VGC podcast, editor Andy Robinson claimed that Fable is still “miles away”, which is the last thing any of us wanted to hear.
To make matters worse, VGC writer and podcast host Jordan Middler also claimed that there's been some uncertainty over what direction the reboot is taking: “I've certainly had conversations about the Fable project that just sounds like it was, at least from 2021 and 2022, that there was a lot of poor management going on, there was a lot of not [being] quite sure what they want this Fable to be,” he said. “Because I’m not quite sure if you made an original-style Fable game now it would be what people want. The term 'Witcher-like' was thrown about a lot to me. Which I feel will p*ss people off that like the original Fable.”
At the time of writing, this is all unofficial information, so take it with a pinch of salt, but it certainly sounds like Fable fans shouldn’t be holding their breath for a trailer to be released any time soon.
