To say that Netflix has made the pop culture headlines in the past couple of days would be to put it lightly. I’m sure everywhere you turn, you’re faced with news of Henry Cavill’s departure from The Witcher. In case you missed it, Cavill will be replaced by Liam Hemsworth in season four after choosing to leave the show.
It’s a shock exit, that’s for sure. In fact, we still don’t know why Cavill has chosen to go. Some have put it down to the fact that he’s signed on with DC to return as Superman. Others have said that Cavill doesn’t agree with the show’s departure from the books. Anyway, if you’re looking to push all of the drama to one side to find something brilliant and new to watch on the streamer, I have just the thing. All Quiet On The Western Front has a near perfect Rotten Tomatoes score.
Check out the trailer for the film below.
All Quiet On The Western Front was released on Netflix just last week and is based on the novel of the same name by Erich Maria Remarque. Set during World War I, the film follows the life of young German soldier Paul Bäumer who soon realises the realities of war after being disillusioned by the ideals of patriotism and heroism.

As pointed out by GamesRadar, over on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, All Quiet On The Western Front has got an impressive Tomatometer score of 92% making the film certified fresh. Entertainment Weekly’s Leah Greenblatt wrote, “A film that feels both aesthetically dazzling and full of necessary truths: an antiwar drama that transcends the bombast of propaganda mostly just because it's so artfully and indelibly made,” while New York Times’ Ben Kenigsberg added, “The magnification in scale and dexterity lends itself to showing off. Still, the movie aims to pummel you with ceaseless brutality, and it’s hard not to be rattled by that.”
Awards Daily’s Mark Johnson wrote, “All Quiet on the Western Front is a jaw-dropping film and a remarkable piece of work,” while AV Club’s Matthew Jackson said, “This is a film about the boys who don’t come home, and its story proves both deeply affecting—and surprisingly timeless.” Needless to say, All Quiet On The Western Front is probably a film you should watch with a tissue. Tears will be shed, but don’t let that dissuade you.
