Controversial Netflix Ad-Supported Tier Pricing Seemingly Confirmed By Report

A new report appears to confirm exactly how much Netflix's ad-supported tier will cost.

We’ve known for quite some time now that ads are on their way to Netflix. The streaming service announced its new cheaper ad-supported tier back in June. It’s not yet known exactly when the change will come into effect but the cheaper price point is likely to attract a lot of interest, and a new report may have confirmed the price.

Speaking of Netflix, check out the incredible new trailer for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners below.

According to Bloomberg, Netflix’s new ad-supported tier will cost somewhere between $7 and $9 a month. Netflix’s most popular ad-free plan currently retails for $15.49 a month so the new tier is almost half the price. Bloomberg went on to claim that ads would be shown before and during shows (not after), and there would be roughly four minutes worth of ads every hour.

The report further added that ads would be concentrated on Netflix’s original TV series plus some licensed properties. Children’s programming and Netflix original movies would be excluded - plus ads will be generalised and varied to avoid repetition.

It’s not yet known when the new tier will launch. It was originally thought to land sometime in 2023 but the report claims it could now be released by the end of this year. Bloomberg note that the ad-supported tier will originally launch in six territories but these remain a mystery for now. As with any rumour, this has to be taken with a pinch of salt until anything is confirmed by Netflix but Bloomberg do have a reliable reputation.
