Max Payne star James McCaffrey has sadly died, aged just 65 following a battle with cancer.
Born in Albany, New York in 1959, James McCaffrey's acting career started with humble beginnings featuring in several small televised and movie roles from 1987, but it wasn't until the year 2001 that McCaffrey became a household name in the video game industry starring as Max Payne in the game of the same name.

Released for PC, PlayStation 2 and the original Xbox, Max Payne tells the story of a former detective of the New York Police Department hellbent on revenge following the brutal murder of his family with an investigation leading to the pursuit of a drug designer simply known as “Valkyr.”

McCaffrey would land the leading roles in the Max Payne sequels with the last being the brilliant Max Payne 3 in 2012 for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. At this point, McCaffrey became a firm favourite with original Max Payne developer Remedy Entertainment and would also feature in its supernatural thriller series Alan Wake as well as Control. McCaffrey’s last role would be in this year's Alan Wake 2 as FBI agent, Alex Casey.
As reported by TMZ, this news will no doubt come as a shock to family, friends and fans. McCaffrey also landed roles in the 2005 game Area 51 and Alone in the Dark in 2010.

Remedy Entertainment is currently working on a full remake of the first two Max Payne games bundled into one complete story. Assuming that James McCaffrey reprised his iconic role, it will be both interesting and heartbreaking to see how the developer handles the sensitive situation, which I’m sure they will honour McCaffrey befittingly.
GAMINGbible sends our love and support to all those impacted by the passing of James McCaffery. Thank you for all the great memories.
