Despite having been busy creating the awe-inspiring sequel that is Alan Wake 2, Remedy Entertainment’s other projects haven't suffered in the slightest. In fact, it’s full steam ahead.
Even though the original Max Payne titles are considered brilliant by fans, the demand for remakes has rung out far and wide. Fortunately, we learned last year that a remake of both Max Payne 1 and 2 was in the works.
The remakes entered the development stage at the latter end of 2023, an exciting development, though one that came with the realisation that it would be next-gen consoles that would see Max pick up his gun again.

It’s still likely that the remakes are destined for next-gen consoles, especially with the PlayStation 5 already in its “latter stage”. However, Remedy has revealed that the Max Payne remakes have “increased development pace”, as have Control 2 and Condor. Apparently, this is due to Alan Wake 2’s huge success, which has enabled the devs to better support its other projects.
Of course, while many see this as fantastic news, there are some fans who are concerned whether the remakes can capture the atmosphere of the original titles, chiefly via the voices of the characters.

“Another important question is will they simply use the original line readings from McCaffrey or are they going to recast Max? I would honestly really rather have the former,” said one fan. “James [McCaffrey] is the heart and soul of Max, I can’t imagine them having anyone else voice him.”
McCaffrey died in 2023, leaving behind a hole in the Max Payne fandom, and questions regarding how the Max Payne remakes will proceed. As of yet, Remedy hasn’t announced who will be voicing Max, leaving fans hopeful that McCaffrey’s original lines will be used.
Although there are many unanswered questions that need addressing, it’s a positive to see the Max Payne remakes powering ahead.
