We all remember the great Grand Theft Auto VI leak of 2022 which saw hackers obtain over 90 minutes of development footage from the highly-anticipated Rockstar title.
As one of the biggest data breaches in video game history, the leaks gave fans their first look at Grand Theft Auto VI.

This included its protagonists, setting, environments and more and despite Rockstar and Take-Two Interactive successfully taking most of the leaked footage down, the damage had already been done.

Although it was the first proper glimpse at the long-awaited Grand Theft Auto entry, there was still plenty of sympathy for its developers.
However, according to former Rockstar developer Obbe Vermeij, who is best known for working on Grand Theft Auto 3 and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, the GTA VI leaks were not as big of a deal as people made out.
Vermeij shared his thoughts in a recent interview with SanInPlay on Youtube and was quick to preface his thoughts by saying he did not blame anything on the current Rockstar developers.
However, he also claimed that the 2022 GTA VI leaks were only a big deal for fans because “Rockstar doesn’t give them any news”.

As a result, he believes the leaks would have made less of an impact if the studio was not overly secretive.
However, he also understands why they are as every time a “big company” reveals news about their big projects, it often gets “analysed” and met with negativity.
As a result, Vermeij ultimately believes that staying quiet is their “best bet” even though it may lead to leaks as it did two years ago.
The countdown for Grand Theft Auto VI is still ongoing with rumours that its second official trailer will be released any day now.

Hopefully it is released officially and not thanks to any leaks.
