It’s been a good year for Marvel’s wall-crawler, especially with the upcoming Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, which will feature two playable web-heads for the price of one.
Since its initial reveal trailer last year, fans have been patiently awaiting more information on what Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has in store for them. After a long wait, Insomniac Games proudly unveiled a gameplay reveal during the recent PlayStation Showcase event, which blew fans away.
Take a look at that gameplay below.
The demo gave us a glimpse of the new open world, which will be twice the size of the first game, and expand way beyond the city of Manhattan. The gameplay itself also looked immaculate, likely due to its PS5 exclusivity. Aside from hints at the story, and showing off the spectacular (and scary) power of the new black symbiote suit, it was revealed both Peter and Miles will be playable characters, with the player having the ability to switch between them at will.

The game’s director Bryan Intihar discussed the character-switching mechanic during a recent Eurogamer interview providing some more insight on how swapping characters will work in missions and free-roam gameplay. Intihar said, “When you’re playing the main story, we control when you switch between Peter and Miles … it’s done in service to the story when we’re making those switches, for sure. So, as you saw on that gameplay reveal, which is a segment of the main story, we are pre-determining those based on what we want to do for how the story plays out."
“We have content designed around Peter, we have content designed around Miles," he continued. "And we have content where you can play either. You’ll be able to – in the open world – freely switch between them with a simple button press.” Switching between the Spider-Men sounds like a lot of fun, especially considering they both have drastically different playstyles. Peter’s Spider-Man will of course possess the symbiote suit, which as we saw in the gameplay reveal, features some monstrous and aggressive new abilities, like a large sweeping tendril attacks.
In contrast, Miles will seemingly have all the powers he obtained in Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, like invisibility and electricity attacks, though it’s more than likely he’ll have a few more tricks up his web-shooters now that he’s gained some more experience.
Peter and Miles will be facing off against some classic Spider-Man villains, with the main antagonist being Kraven The Hunter, played by one of the stars of Red Dead Redemption 2. Presumably, Venom will become an antagonist as well, and we saw a glimpse of The Lizard during the gameplay demo.
