After two months of non-stop The Last of Us talk, it’s certainly going to be weird when the HBO series finally draws to a close later this week. I mean, of course, we’ll spend several days unpacking what I’m sure will be an action-packed finale and after that, we’ve only got three months to wait until it’s the franchise’s 10th anniversary - so does The Last of Us discourse ever really end?
The answer for me is luckily no. Beyond that, we’ve got the upcoming multiplayer title to look forward to and I’d be shocked if The Last of Us Part III didn’t eventually happen. Who’s excited for the season finale of HBO’s adaptation? Some fans are concerned about the episode’s runtime and Ellie actor Bella Ramsey has teased that viewers are likely to find the episode to be ‘divisive.’ One thing The Last of Us fans aren’t divided over though is the fact that Ellie is one of gaming’s greatest protagonists.

To celebrate International Women’s Day yesterday, The Last of Us fans gathered on reddit to declare Ellie “the greatest female protagonist” of all time. User irazzleandazzle wrote, “Facts. She’s the GOAT. Definitely my fave female game character of all time,” while East-Bluejay6891 added, “That’s baby girl.” It sure is.

Many were quick to point out that Ellie isn’t the only incredible female protagonist from the franchise. User sockgoblinator wrote, “Shoutout to Abby,” and simpledeadwitches added, “I stan for Abby but Ellie is awesome.” I’ll admit, I stan for Abby too but I love both characters. Let’s not forget about Dina either. I can’t wait to see Abby and Dina join into the fold of the HBO series.
We know that season two is on the way and will adapt Part II. I’m curious to see what changes are made. You’d assume that perhaps in this instance, Ellie and Abby’s Seattle experiences will unfold alongside one another but we certainly don’t know for sure. There’s so much to look forward to.
