'Jak And Daxter' Gets Gorgeous PC Remaster

These days, I think most of us associate two key franchises with Naughty Dog: Uncharted and The Last of Us. Before the studio had us setting off on globetrotting adventures or making soul destroying decisions amidst a zombie outbreak, it was churning out Jak and Daxter games. Tonally, it’s a completely different vibe for Naughty Dog but this series is an absolute classic.

Released in 2001, Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy is considered to be one of the PlayStation 2’s very best platformers. Naughty Dog may currently be fine tuning Joel’s freckles and beard hairs but in its day, The Precursor Legacy boasted peak graphics and if you’ve been itching to relive that nostalgia, a stunning PC remaster is now available.

Speaking of Naughty Dog, check out the brand new trailer for The Last of Us Part 1 - a new-gen remake of the studio’s 2013 classic.

It’s not an official remaster, but one Jak and Daxter fan has taken fate into their own hands, creating an unofficial port of Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy. Honestly, it’s near impossible to tell that this is actually a fan project. The fully-working port looks and feels stunning. If you’re interested, the remaster is available to download for free from GitHub, although your CPU will need to be able to support AVX.

Speaking about the project, the creators noted that they had decompiled 400,000 lines of Naughty Dog’s original code. Whilst they still have 100,000 lines to go, the game is already fully playable and players will be able to achieve 100 percent completion.

If your computer won’t support this download, don’t worry. PlayStation folks who opt to purchase the new Premium tier of PlayStation Plus will gain access to Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy, Jak II, Jak 3, and Jak X. Good times all around, my friends.
