The absolutely staggering amount of money Robert Downey Jr has made since the release of Iron Man has been revealed.

To say that Robert Downey Jr has had an up-and-down Hollywood career, would be an understatement. The forever young, 57-year-old Downey Jr began his career in an uncredited role in 1970 as a child actor.

While landing several prominent roles throughout his career, his true breakout moment was arguably when he played billionaire playboy Tony Stark in the 2008 Iron Man movie.

However, before becoming the star that we know and love today, Downey Jr has battled substance addiction and even served 180 days in prison for failing to attend a court-ordered drug test.

So it's fair to say that Robert Downey Jr has been to hell and back, and has certainly earned the glittering career he has today. However, how glittering I hear you ask? Well, as reported by UNILAD, Downey Jr has made a staggering amount of money since Iron Man in 2008.

Downey Jr earned just $2.5 million for his debut role as Iron Man. Well, I say “just”, but in comparison, it’s nothing compared to what the actor earned in later roles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Four years later, in the 2012 Avengers movie, Downey Jr then earned $50 million. This was on top of a share of the $1.5 billion profits made from Avengers. This in turn made him the highest-paid actor in 2013.

What’s more, he then made an eye-watering $75 million for returning in Iron Man 3 (2013) and Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015). In 2016, while not earning as much as Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Downey Jr pocketed an estimated $33 million in 2016, the year of Captain America: Civil War.

2017 saw the release of Spider-Man: Homecoming, and despite playing a small role in Tom Holland’s debut solo movie as Peter Parker, Downey Jr still netted an estimated $48 million. However, in 2018, the release of Infinity War, the actor earned a whopping $81 million as well as a percentage of the movie's $2 billion box office profits.

As for 2019's Endgame, Downey Jr was paid a base salary of $20 million, as well as a further $55 million from ticket sales on top of any other bonuses he may have accumulated. It’s reported that just from the MCU alone, Robert Downey Jr has earned an estimated $435 million.

Sadly, for those hoping to see Robert Downey Jr reprise his role once more as Tony Stark aka Iron Man in future MCU movies, Marvel has confirmed that will not happen.
