Following Tumblr's latest announcement that it will allow naked photos and mature content on the platform once more, users might be influenced to move from Twitter and Reddit to the website.
In 2018, Tumblr elected to ban all adult content on the website after Apple removed the app from the App Store owing to infractions of the terms of service regarding child sexual abuse. According to Forbes, less than one percent of users were creating adult content at this time but consumers of that content accounted for 25 percent of Tumblr's user base.
Compounding this problem was that Tumblr used automation to ban adult content, causing a range of very not explicit images of things like raw chicken, a Louis Vuitton bag, dachshunds in a bath, and more to be banned.

Community labels, Tumblr's latest feature that arrived in September, seemed to suggest that the rules are becoming more lax when it comes to the content that is and isn't allowed on the website. The team said that community labels would let users filter what they saw on their feeds, and now, would set the scene for "a broader range of expression, creativity, and art on Tumblr, including content depicting the human form (yes, that includes the naked human form)."
Given that Twitter is in a precarious place after Elon Musk's slew of potential changes to the platform, the reveal that Tumblr would be more accepting of adult content has been met with only the driest of wit.
"We still don’t allow hate, spam, violent threats, or anything illegal, and visual depictions of sexually explicit acts remain off-limits on Tumblr," continued the website in its announcement. Additionally, chief executive officer Matt Mullenweg said that, in spite of his own liberal political perspectives, it is pretty much impossible for pornography to be hosted on Tumblr. Pretty much.
