If it wasn't for a stacked year of video game releases, there is no question that Hogwarts Legacy would have been a game of the year contender but it had the likes of Baldur’s Gate 3, Alan Wake 2, and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom to deal with.
It’s been well over a year since Hogwarts Legacy was initially released on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S before making its way onto other platforms including the Nintendo Switch. Hogwarts Legacy is an action RPG that lets Harry Potter fans live out their best Wizarding World life whether it's partaking in the story campaign, being distracted by its side activities or just simply exploring the mystical halls of Hogwarts castle and its surrounding areas.

“Experience Hogwarts in the 1800s. Your character is a student who holds the key to an ancient secret that threatens to tear the wizarding world apart. Make allies, battle dark wizards, and ultimately decide the fate of the wizarding world. Your legacy is what you make of it. Live the unwritten,” reads the synopsis of Hogwarts Legacy.

Despite the competition, and being snubbed at ceremonies such as The Game Awards, Hogwarts Legacy became the best-selling video game of 2023 and even outsold the lifetime sales of Elden Ring in just five weeks. This has led fans to believe that Hogwarts Legacy 2 is inevitable or at the very least, the original game will get substantial post-launch content such as story DLC or a New Game Plus to keep fans busy until a sequel may arrive. Sadly, that has not been the case at the time of writing and some fans are not happy.
Very shortly, Hogwarts Legacy will be treated to a new update but judging by some members of a Reddit thread, it has already been met with disappointment. “What are we thinking is going to be included in the next update?” asked Jart618, referencing a tweet from Chandler Wood, the community manager of Avalanche Software for Hogwarts Legacy.
“We all saw Chandler’s tweet, but what could they be adding? They’ve been silent since the Switch release so they’re obviously working on something, but what? I Want to hear what everyone else is assuming to ground my expectations.”

“I seriously think this update will be two things only, exclusive PS5 DLC releasing on all platforms and a photo mode,” replied Slowcookednips. “If the 'small update' is just a photo mode, it’s kind of a big middle finger to 99% of the players. I mean, I’m all for photo modes in games, but I doubt the majority of the players use such a feature on any given game,” exclaimed XaviJon.
“Don't get your hopes up. They're already working on the next game, any good ideas they might have will be saved for that, any work they may have to do to add content to this game is (from their perspective) better spent on advancing the sequel,” said Fernis. “We're getting PS5 exclusive content unlocked and that's probably it.”
Hopefully, Avalanche Software will reveal all in the coming weeks and fans' questions will soon be answered. Hogwarts Legacy is available now on PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch.
