It won’t come as a surprise to anyone that Hogwarts Legacy has been the year’s biggest hit so far. Even if you haven’t picked up the game, I bet you’re familiar with Revelio or you’ve heard about that fella Merlin and his silly trials. For the last month or so, it’s all anyone has really talked about. Well, except for HBO’s The Last of Us.
Hogwarts Legacy’s player count may have fallen in recent days, but that’s to be expected with a single player title. Still, one fan has found a rare open-world event after a whopping 140 hours. I thought my 45-hour save was hefty. Here’s a fun fact: Hogwarts Legacy players have cast Revelio over 100 billion times in the first month of release. It’s an unwritten rule that you have to cast it approximately every 10-yards. Fans are itching for a sequel or DLC - with the Black Lake suggested as a possible DLC setting - and it could well happen as Hogwarts Legacy has shattered an impressive sales record.
Remember PlayStation 1 Hagrid? Someone has modded him into the game. Take a look below.
As reported by GameSpot, Circana - who record US game sales - have released their report for February 2023 and Hogwarts Legacy didn’t just top the February chart, it’s also the best-selling game of 2023 so far. The report doesn’t include exact sales figures but it did show that Hogwarts Legacy is followed in the overall 2023 sales chart by Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, Dead Space, Madden NFL 23, FIFA 23, and Elden Ring.

That’s okay though, because we already know that Hogwarts Legacy is a whopping commercial success. It only took two weeks for the game to sell 12 million copies, driving $850 million in revenue. This made it the most successful Harry Potter game of all time and Warner Bros’ Games’ biggest launch. One data analyst recently claimed that Hogwarts Legacy’s sales are now likely much closer to $1 billion.
Hogwarts Legacy may be the best-selling game of 2023 right now, but we are only in March. We’ve got The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 on the way, but I do think that Hogwarts Legacy may retain its title. The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One launch is just around the corner on 5 May, followed by the Nintendo Switch launch on 25 July. The final sales figures could be huge.
