Hogwarts Legacy fans are certainly hungry for more content. A sequel, an expansion … you name it. While I don’t have either of those things to offer you, you may be interested to hear that players are only just discovering that there are three possible endings in the game. That’s right, three.
We’re still awaiting the Nintendo Switch release of Hogwarts Legacy so it’s likely that devs will be hard at work on that before we can even think about the possibility of an expansion or sequel. That’ll surely be the plan though, given Hogwarts Legacy’s colossal commercial success. Game sales have already surpassed the $1 billion mark, plus the game is even outperforming some Harry Potter films. In recent weeks, players have been datamining for cut content discovering a planned morality system in the process. Now though, one fan has unearthed the fact that there are indeed three endings.

Reddit user waterspring5808 pointed out that the three endings are revealed in The Art and Making of Hogwarts Legacy book. Page 16 of the book reads, “At the start of the player's path they know very little magic, but as the story unfolds, they become highly skilled and can defeat the villains who want the ancient magic power. Then, by the end of the game, the player decides either to use the power they have gained for themselves, share it with the world or keep it hidden - this being affected by their journey in one of at least three ways.”

If you’re thinking, ‘I only had two endings,’ that’s an experience many players have had. It turns out the hidden option, which for most players was to keep the power for themselves, was hidden under our noses this whole time. First you’ll be asked whether to keep the power contained, or whether you intend to open and release it. Like many players, I chose to keep it contained and that was that. If you press release though, you’ll then gain a bonus option with the game prompting you to either redact your choice and keep the power stored, release it into the world, or take it for yourself.
Taking the power for yourself triggers a rare cutscene that sees the main character absorbing said power with their eyes gleaming red. It’ll be interesting to see whether these choices affect a possible sequel because they definitely show two starkly different variations of the main character.
