Finally, Hogwarts Legacy players can now skip those damn Merlin Trial cutscenes after all.
Released in February 2023 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, Hogwarts Legacy became an instant hit with fans of the Wizarding World. Like never before, players can explore this famous school of Witchcraft and Wizardry at their leisure. So much so, that you could totally ignore missions and instead, simply search for enticing secrets within the halls and beyond. Granted, despite the early hype for Hogwarts Legacy, player enthusiasm has dwindled a little as with any new game, but it's surely got to be the pick for many fans for a 2023 Game of the Year contender.

With all the excitement that comes with an action RPG such as Hogwarts Legacy, it's not without its flaws. Sure, Hogwarts is an immersive location but it has its limitations. Those damn Merlin Trial cutscenes spring to mind. In total, there are 95 Merlin Trials and they just so happen to be the only way to increase your item slots. This can be problematic because Hogwarts Legacy throws loot at you from every angle, certainly too much for you to carry.

If you want to carry more loot, completing Merlin Trials is the only way to tackle that particular issue. Furthermore, players have also accused the Merlin Trials of being repetitive. Worse still, for every single one of those Merlin Trials, you are treated to an unskippable cutscene. Well, as it happens, you can actually skip those cutscenes, but there is a catch.
You are able to skip the Merlin Trial cutscenes, but only if you play Hogwarts Legacy on PC. To skip the cutscenes, you will need to download a mod called ‘Skip Merlin Trial Cinematics’. Yep, this mod does exactly what it says on the tin. The mod is created by Nexusmods user YTLI and once applied, you will be able to skip the Merlin Trial cutscenes by holding Right Click on the mouse or by pressing Triangle/Y on a controller.
Let’s hope that the developers at Avalanche Software implement a patch for Hogwarts Legacy so that we can all skip those annoying cutscenes across all platforms. Hogwarts Legacy is out now for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. It will then release on 5 May for PS4 and Xbox One, followed by Nintendo Switch on 25 July.
