Hogwarts Legacy is now making more money than some Harry Potter movies.
If there was ever an example of just how popular and profitable the video game industry can be, it’s this story. The Harry Potter movie franchise is one of the most popular on the planet garnering a passionate and unwavering legion of fans that will support the Wizarding World until its dying days.
As we reported earlier in the week, following its launch on PS4 and Xbox One, Hogwarts Legacy has now surpassed $1 billion resulting from its 15 million unit sales worldwide across all platforms. So if you had any doubts about whether they’d be any sequels, that milestone has all but made it a certainty.
As reported by Den of the Geek, while not beating the Harry Potter movie franchise as a whole, as a singular entity, Hogwarts Legacy has grossed more than most. TheNumbers.com gives a detailed breakdown of what each movie entry made at the worldwide box office.

Only one movie has made more than Hogwarts Legacy, and that’s Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows: Part II, which grossed over $1.316 billion at the worldwide box office. One could argue that number is greater when you consider Part I which grossed over $950 million. When combined, that brings the total to a whopping $2,266,000,000.
Elsewhere, each of the remaining Harry Potter movie entries ranges from $789 million to $965 million. It’s worth keeping in mind that unless Hogwarts Legacy releases another seven or eight games, it doesn't stand much chance of beating its movie counterpart. However, if Hogwarts Legacy can amass anything near three billion with three video game releases, that’s incredibly impressive nonetheless.
In recent news, the Hogwarts Legacy release date on Nintendo Switch has just been delayed again, this time by four months. For everyone else, Hogwarts Legacy is available now on PC, PlayStation and Xbox.
