PlayStation classic Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone gets a stunning new-gen remaster and we need this to be made official, now.
Originally released for the PlayStation in 2001, before arriving on other platforms in 2003, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone is one of the series's most beloved video game adaptations. Oh, and it’s also the game that gave us amazing Hagrid skin.
Check out PS1 Hagrid below!
For its time, this was the best (and only) game inspired by the Harry Potter franchise in 2001. To be fair, it was a blast and gave us a fun sense of adventure when it came to exploring Hogwarts Castle and its surrounding areas.
Advert
At the time of writing, the PS1 version of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone is 23 years old, so it’s not exactly aged well in terms of visuals, performance and gameplay. Thankfully, as spotted by DSOgaming, a talented modder has taken matters into their own hands by giving us a stunning new-gen remaster.
The modder in question is mmdanggg2 and by updating Unreal Engine 1 RTX Renderer with added ray and path tracing effects, this classic has never looked better, as showcased by the screenshots shared by NVIDIA’s Jacob Freeman. However, it should be stated that this remaster is taken from the 2003 PC release and not the PlayStation version.
Advert
It’s safe to assume that this remaster only impacts the visuals of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and has no impact on gameplay.
So, let’s hope that after seeing the likes of Resident Evil: Director’s Cut and Dino Crisis getting PS Plus releases, the classic Wizarding World adventure at least receives the same treatment one day.
Sadly, there seems to be no legit way to play Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, unless you own an original copy or code of the game.
