If you think the news surrounding GTA VI is severely lacking in substance, wait until you learn about GTA VII, aka the game of the oh-so-distant-we-might-all-be-dead future.
As much as I’d like to say I was joking in my intro, I’d be lying; though we’ll likely still be around when the sequel to GTA VI launches, many of us will be significantly older. After all, it’s been over a decade that the devs have been working on GTA VI, with the game proving far more elusive than anyone anticipated. So much so, that fans are angry, calling out Rockstar Games for its 2022 announcement.
Learn all there is to know about GTA VI.
Well, I’m about to serve an even more disappointing truth, courtesy of YouTuber LegacyKillaHD. “We all joke that we'll never see GTA 7 or GTA 8 or future new games in this series because of the growing lengthy gaps between entries,” they begin, “but even some Rockstar devs don't anticipate they'll ever work on another GTA game after GTA 6”.
Advert
The jokes have been extensive for some time now, as too have the countless Reddit threads bitterly discussing how we’ll all be old and grey when Rockstar announces further GTA titles. “I was in college when V came out. I’ll be in a nursing home for VII,” said one player, while another simply said, “I’ll be dead”. Straight to the point.
Still, while the unspoken reality that GTA VII is a distant, really distant, oh-so-distant-you-can’t-even-see-it, dream, nobody has really considered the devs before. Yet, as LegacyKillaHD points out, most of the devs working on GTA VI likely won’t be around to make the next instalment. “The devs (I know) don't anticipate they'll be around in like 15 years when work on GTA VII or whatever it's called begins."
This is the price we pay for games “lightyears ahead” of their predecessors – we have to wait, with that waiting game extended the more video games advance. I hate sounding like a boomer, but those do be the facts, though.
