Fans are finally feeling a bit of relief following an announcement from the team behind Grand Theft Auto VI, after months of desperately trying to piece together any sliver of information about Rockstar Games’ upcoming title.
Earlier this week, Take-Two’s CEO Strauss Zelnick sat down with Bloomberg to discuss their marketing strategy for Grand Theft Auto VI.
During said interview, Zelnick was asked why exactly the team is keeping the release date such a closely guarded secret.

“The anticipation for that title may be the greatest anticipation I’ve ever seen for an entertainment property, and I’ve been around the block a few times and I’ve been in every entertainment business there is,” Zelnick replied.
“We want to maintain the anticipation and the excitement. And we do have competitors who will describe their release schedule for years in advance. And we found that the better thing to do is to provide marketing materials relatively close to the release window in order to create that excitement on the one hand and balance the excitement with unmet anticipation.”

Over on the r/GTA6 subreddit, fans mostly just seemed relieved to hear that the game was being mentioned by anyone closely associated with it.

“It makes more sense now,” commented user Routine-Guess3340, “Imagine the hype, a trailer being announced in August with an early October release date - how hyped everyone would be after years of silence.”
“Seems extremely confident in it which is awesome,” replied user hoopedchex.
Honestly, I’m not sure that Take-Two and Rockstar Games’ strategy of not really doing anything is potentially the most effective way of promoting the game, but I can’t deny that it’s working.
It kind of seems like people are talking about GTA VI more now than when they were mere weeks after its first trailer, mostly because they’re constantly advertising how desperate they are for more info.

Hopefully we’ll hear something soon, but just don’t hype yourself into a frenzy again before we do.
