GTA 6 leaked gameplay screenshot is sending fans wild

Was it real?

A leaked GTA VI gameplay screenshot has sent Grand Theft Auto fans into a wild frenzy across social media.

It’s no secret that the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series will be a massive deal when it finally arrives, as indicated by the hot reception it received when Rockstar Games released the first GTA VI trailer in December 2023.

Check out the GTA VI trailer below!

However, we’re about a full year away from when that GTA VI trailer made its debut, and fans of the series are wondering when the next trailer might arrive and there’s a chance we may be treated to the next trailer soon.

That being said, knowing the rotten luck of Rockstar Games, before that enviable second trailer arrives, it will probably leak ahead of time as seen with the infamous GTA VI leaks months before the first trailer was officially revealed.

Now, to no surprise whatsoever, GTA VI has seemingly been the victim of another leak. This time, it’s an apparent screenshot of its gameplay. An image was reportedly shared by the Twitter account ‘GTA 6 Countdown’ which was later taken down by Rockstar Games’ parent company, Take-Two Interactive.

Fans speculated that this screenshot could have been an unofficial AI-generated image but the fact that it’s received a DMCA takedown has led others to believe that it might be genuine.

“This user's post got copyright struck, but just the image. What’s weird though is the image was AI-generated. Could this mean anything or not?” asked This_Juggernaut_9901. It seems that this image was genuine but at the same time, it’s not what many fans hoped it would be.

"It was an enhanced version of a 2022 screenshot,” replied Dry-Fault-5557.

Redditor TurboLightGamer69 elaborated further, adding: “It was a concept created with the help of AI by an admin from the main Discord server. According to the account, the DMCA was issued due to AI used by TakeTwo, called Tracer AI, which likely mistook the concept for a leak.”

So there you have it, the screenshot was genuine but it was merely an enhanced image of what had already been making the rounds. Hopefully, Rockstar Games will put us all out of our misery soon and treat us to the second GTA VI trailer before 2024 comes to an end.

At the time of writing, Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled to be released in late 2025 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. The PC release date is yet to be announced.
