Developed by Frictional Games, when Amnesia: The Dark Descent was released for PC in 2010, it helped change the video game horror genre forever. It also helped to launch the careers of popular YouTubers PewDiePie and Markiplier. Amnesia: The Dark Descent was well received by both critics and fans alike, garnering scores on Metacritic of 85 and 8.6, respectively. Then in 2013, a sequel arrived in the form of Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs, and despite not being as critically acclaimed as its predecessor, it is still a decent horror game in its own right.

This brings us to the topic of today's free game. It is the aforementioned Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs. “The year is 1899. Wealthy industrialist Oswald Mandus awakes in his bed, wracked with fever and haunted by dreams of a dark and hellish engine,” reads the synopsis. “Tortured by visions of a disastrous expedition to Mexico, broken on the failing dreams of an industrial utopia, wracked with guilt and tropical disease, he wakes into a nightmare. The house is silent, the ground beneath him shaking at the will of some infernal machine: all he knows is that his children are in grave peril, and it is up to him to save them.”
