Almost 26 years after its initial release, GoldenEye 007 may finally be hitting Nintendo Switch and Xbox consoles.
Last year, we were given the very exciting news that the iconic N64 title GoldenEye 007 would not only be added to the Nintendo Switch + Expansion Pack online service, but a brand new remaster was in the works for Xbox consoles. The remaster will be given a much-needed facelift - with 4K resolution and an improved frame rate, and will also include achievements and split-screen co-op play. Even better, it’ll be available via Xbox Game Pass, so subscribers won’t have to pay a penny for it.
Take a look at the trailer for GoldenEye 007’s re-release below.
Until now, we’ve not known when exactly the game will re-release, but according to a leaker, it could be imminent. Over on Twitter, @eXtas1stv has teased that GoldenEye 007 will release in “late January” (translated by Google).
Obviously, as with any leak or insider claim, this should be taken with a very generous pinch of salt. With that said though, it was just confirmed yesterday that an Xbox and Bethesda Developer_Direct is going to be streamed on 25 January, which will offer an “inside look at some of the games coming to Xbox, PC and Game Pass over the next few months”. It certainly wouldn’t be unreasonable to suggest that GoldenEye 007 could be dropped around then, but if not, hopefully we'll at least get a proper release date for it.

According to the announcement post, the Developer_Direct will “focus on big features” and “extended gameplay showcases”, and will touch on Redfall, Minecraft Legends, Forza Motorsport and The Elder Scrolls Online, among others. A standalone showcase for Starfield is also in the works, but it’s not been confirmed when this will be shown. We’ll just have to wait and see if GoldenEye 007 is amongst the lineup at the end of the month.
