Xbox insiders have suggested a new quality of life upgrade is on the way for Xbox Series X/S and it’s a big one.
Xbox have come a long way on their road to recovery following the tragedy that was the Xbox One. There have been a lot of bumps in the road, like a lack of successful exclusives and more recently, difficulties closing its deal with Activision Blizzard, which is currently facing potentially catastrophic pushback from the UK.
One thing they have been getting right though is listening to fans, and doing their best to offer a gaming experience that appeals to everyone, such as through their enormous Xbox Game Pass offering. This is largely due to the Xbox Insider program, which sees a select few try out new user-interface features, as well as new dashboard designs.

Now though, they’re reportedly brewing a quality of life improvement for all Xbox Series X/S consoles, which will be an absolute game changer when it arrives. Apparently, download speeds will be getting an upgrade, allowing players to download new titles quicker than ever before, meaning less time looking at a percentage, and more time playing games.
This news comes from the patch notes for the June 2 Xbox Insider alpha skip-ahead, which cites "content installation and updating" as one of the key changes rolling out for insiders to test and feedback on.
Download speeds have been a problem since the Xbox 360/PlayStation 3 days, with speeds mainly depending on your internet connection. While download speeds were promised to improve with the latest Xbox Series X/S/PlayStation 5 generation, many gamers believe they’ve largely stayed the same, which is something Xbox engineers have been trying to change.

Efforts have largely been focused on the internal power of the console, which tends to put more power into current downloads rather than expending it on other background activity. Results still tend to depend on internet speeds, but at least some progress is being made.
It’s unclear when the next major patch will be dropping. It’ll likely spend some time with insiders to identify and fix any glitches or bugs that are present, before being prepared and shipped out for everyone else. We’ll just have to wait patiently and see what Xbox has planned, possibly with some big reveals during the upcoming Xbox Showcase.
