Square Enix has shown off the first trailer for the sequel to Final Fantasy VII Remake, and it looks like it's official name is Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.
Revealed during Square Enix's big 25th anniversary celebration of the release of the original Final Fantasy VII, it was confirmed that part two of the remake - which we know now is also the second part of what will ultimately be a trilogy - releases next winter.
Take a look at the game in action below!
It probably won't surprise those of you who played Final Fantasy VII Remake to the end to learn that Rebirth will continue to massively deviate from the plot of the 1997 RPG. While Remake mostly stuck to the script, the game's final moments veered off into completely uncharted territory, and made it clear that we won't be able to take anything for granted in the sequel.
Advert
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will also offer the same winning blend of real-time and turn-based combat that made Remake so rewarding to play, with a fantastic combat system that pays tribute to the classic game while doing something fresh.
Other details on the game remain a mystery at this time, although we're assuming Square Enix wants to keep as much under wraps as possible so as to make the game a genuine surprise. Will Aerith still die by Sephiroth's hand? Is Jessie alive? Will Chadley be revealed as the villain behind it all? These are questions we'll have to wait over a year for, unfortunately, but it looks like it should be worth the wait.
