Far Cry 2 is arguably the best Far Cry in the series, and when it’s “remastered”, it’s easy to see why.
With another Far Cry game on the way but no word on when we’ll see it, I’m sure it’s easy for fans to revisit some of the previous titles while they wait, but before you boot up Far Cry 3 again consider this first…
Not that Far Cry 3 isn’t a good game, it’s a great game, but it’s missing something that only its predecessor really had…
Far Cry games are survival games, and Far Cry 2 pushed survival gameplay to new heights by setting you free in Africa to cause chaos.

I’d wholeheartedly urge you to experience the game for yourself, with no spoilers, if you haven’t already but if you’d like to see what I mean, check out this “remastered” gameplay from a YouTube account called Levan.
The video is an entire playthrough of the game on Ultra Graphics settings with ray tracing, which, of course, can only be accomplished on a PC.
While some of the visuals are dated, it still holds up gameplay-wise if you can look past the graphics, and seeing it like this shows just how badly it needs an official remaster or remake from Ubisoft.
Having to use an actual map that you hold rather than a digital one with waypoints and the like makes navigating feel more rewarding, and the injuries you sustain and have to treat yourself are something that got less important as the series progressed.

Again, the Far Cry games are all decent in their own way but Far Cry 2 feels like it stands out the most despite not looking as pretty as the later titles.
If you haven’t played it, you should definitely consider it, and if you don't have a PC, I’m pretty sure you can play it on modern Xbox titles via backwards compatibility.
